Phuket beaches: Kata and Kata Noi were the highlights of my short stay on the island. I visited after exploring Phang Nga Bay and Koh Panyee, then asked my driver to take me along Phuket’s west coast. I did not swim or spend long at each beach, but Kata Noi stood out for its quieter, beautiful setting. This guide pairs my trip memories with practical notes on beach conditions, transport, places to stay and food.

In my previous post about Phang Nga Bay, I shared the scenery and our visit to Ko Panyi. I then spent a couple of days exploring Phuket. I was impressed by the natural beauty, the roads and how well maintained the beaches appeared during my visit.
Where to Stay in Phuket
After researching places to stay, I chose the Holiday Inn Resort in Patong. I generally prefer being in town, close to shops and activity. My room was near the Busakorn Wing, the resort’s adults-only area, which had a separate and convenient entrance.
Nearby, I found shops, markets, massage parlours and a laundry that washed, pressed and folded clothes by the kilogram for a reasonable price. The hotel was comfortable, and I enjoyed the food.
On our first day, I had lunch at ICC Curry Club in Patong. The food was excellent. While chatting with a waiter, who was also from my region in India, he suggested we visit Phuket FantaSea. I was wary of packaged shows, but decided to give it a try.

The evening was enjoyable. The park looked like a carnival at night, with food stalls, games and decorated shops. I usually avoid high-end shopping, so I spent my time exploring the atmosphere instead.
Photography was not allowed inside the show, so I have no pictures of the performance. What impressed me was the organisation. There were more than 1,000 people watching; after the show, we collected our camera from the lockers and were on the road within about 15–20 minutes.
A Tiger Park Visit
The next day, I visited Phuket Tiger Park. I am no daredevil, and I was nervous when I posed beside a tiger. The handler encouraged me to pull its tail; I declined. Looking back, I would make sure any wildlife attraction I visit prioritises animal welfare and responsible practices.
Riding an ATV in Phuket
We also visited an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) park. I had never ridden an ATV and was unsure whether I could manage it alone, but I gave it a try. It had rained lightly, and the muddy track felt like a jungle adventure. A guide followed on another ATV in case anyone needed help.
Kata, Kata Noi and Karon Beaches
I asked my driver to show me some of Phuket’s beaches. I had read about Karon, Kata and Kata Noi and wanted to see them for myself. I did not have time to swim or stay long at any one beach, but the scenery made a strong impression.
The beaches looked exceptionally beautiful and easy to reach from the road. I also saw people playing beach volleyball.
I am not an expert on beach safety, and conditions vary by season. During my visit, the water looked calm and I saw lifeguards. Always check local flags and advice before entering the sea.

Phuket Beaches Visitor Guide: Kata and Kata Noi (September 2026)

Getting to Phuket and Around the Island
- Arrival: Phuket International Airport serves the island. Direct flights and connections via Bangkok are options; check current routes with airlines.
- Airport to the beaches: Patong, Kata and Karon are on the west coast. Compare current taxi, minivan and bus fares at the airport and confirm your fare before setting off.
- Getting around: Local taxis and ride-hailing services are available. Phuket is hilly; rent a scooter only if you are licensed and experienced, and always wear a helmet.
Which Phuket Beach Should You Choose?
- Kata Beach: A lively, family-friendly bay with shops and places to eat nearby. Surf conditions can attract lessons in the southwest monsoon; swimming conditions vary.
- Kata Noi Beach: Smaller and generally quieter than Kata. It was my favourite beach on this visit.
- Karon Beach: A long, wide stretch of sand. Karon Viewpoint looks over the Kata bays and coastline.
- Patong Beach: A busier base for nightlife, shopping and tours. For a quieter day, consider Nai Harn or Freedom Beach and check access conditions.
Kata vs Kata Noi: Choose Kata if you want a larger beach with more shops, places to eat and activity nearby. Kata Noi is the smaller, quieter-feeling bay, and it was my favourite on this visit. The two bays sit close together, so you can compare them in one south-coast outing; check the route and sea conditions on the day. Beach safety: Phuket’s west coast can have strong surf and rip currents during the rainy season. Swim only where it is permitted, obey lifeguards and beach flags, and stay out of the sea when a red flag is raised.
Things to Do Near Kata and Kata Noi
- Phuket FantaSea: The park’s official site currently lists opening on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm, with a 9:00 pm show. It lists tickets at 1,800 baht for show-only and 2,200 baht with buffet for adults. Check its official visitor information and booking page for current details before planning.
- ATV tours: Several operators run guided rides. Check route, duration, safety equipment, insurance and age rules before booking.
- Phuket Old Town: Explore its Sino-Portuguese streets and confirm the current schedule for the Sunday walking market.

Where to Stay in Phuket
For this Phuket beaches guide, choose your base around the trip you want. Patong offers shops, nightlife and tour options; Kata and Karon make it easier to spend time near the southern west-coast beaches. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort Patong and liked its location near shops and services. Compare current rates and facilities directly before booking.

- Kata: Curry Delight was listed as an Indian and Thai option; verify it is still operating and check the current menu.
- Thai food: Local markets and restaurants offer a range of choices. Confirm market days and prices locally.
Best season: November to April is generally the drier period, while May to October brings more rain and rougher seas. Weather and surf conditions vary, so check a local forecast before beach days.
