Divar Island 2024

So in one of my previous posts I had written about a trip to Divar island and this time again i wanted to show my daughter the La Isla Bonita ( The Beautiful Island ) and hence on a rainy day we set off for the place. We had a rented car and we reached the Old Goa Ferry Terminal and from there caught a ferry to Divar Island. There ferries are quite frequent, one every 10-15 miinutes during the daytime and you can take your 2 or 4 wheeler vehicle on the ferry too for a nominal fee. These ferries are the lifeline of the local community travelling between the islands.

As we got into the ferry  it started raining and it really was quite a lovely sight as you can see from the video below.

The ferry journey from Old goa terminal to Divar Island is quite short, around 10 minutes and soon we were on the island.

Our first stop was the The Church of Our Lady of Compassion , also known as Our Lady of Piety. This Church is located in Piedade which is located at the bottom of a small forested hill on Divar Island. The church designed by a Goan priest is known to be the first Christian structure erected here and dating from the early 18th century.

The original Divar Church stood from 1699 to 1724. The Church was rebuilt in impressive Indian baroque style. The exterior and the interior of the church are carved with beautiful flowers and motifs. The Church is white in color and looks heavenly. There were hardly any other tourists around in the area and in the rainy weather the Church looked beautiful in its Majestic Isolation .

By now  it was nearly Lunch time and we were a bit hungry and so we headed to one of the few restaurants on Divar Island, Avinash Bar & Kitchen.

Avinash Bar & Kitchen is a quaint little place and when we reached there a few people were already enjoying their lunch. There was one person who was taking orders and getting stuff from the kiitchen and he really seemed to be working hard. the service was efficient, prompt and Friendly. We called for a couple of vegetarian snacks and soft drinks and the food was absolutely delicious, fresh and piping hot. The place itself was also very cute and they had a wide variety of food catering to all interests. Certainly a must visit place if you are on the island.

Here are some of the pictures I took that day, do let me know if you like any of them in comments below. Until next time, Au Revioir..
