Goa kayaking is a memorable way to explore the state’s mangrove-lined rivers and backwaters. This guide shares my private-yacht and kayaking experience on the Mandovi, plus practical booking, safety and current-price information for planning a Goa boat trip.
In my last post I told you about Hosa Restaurant and Purple Martini. Today I will tell you about a fantastic cruise I had on a private yacht and the kayaking we did in the mangroves on the Mandovi River.
I have been on regular boat cruises in Goa many times, but this time I wanted to do something different. I found private yacht cruises with kayaking offered by Konkan Explorers. On my trip, the yacht carried a small group for about 2.5 hours, with an optional paddle in the mangroves. I paid ₹3,500 per person at the time; treat that as the price from my visit, not a current quote. Snacks were included, the crew was experienced, and the yacht had a marine toilet. The operator’s current trip formats and group limits may differ, so check availability and inclusions directly before booking.

Goa kayaking: what to expect
Guided kayaking trips in Goa usually follow sheltered river or backwater routes rather than open-sea routes. Depending on the operator and conditions, you may paddle through mangrove channels, watch birds and pass small riverside settlements. Chapora, Mandovi, Zuari and other waterways are mentioned by local operators, but the exact route depends on the trip you book. Ask where the launch point is, how long you will paddle, whether a guide and life jacket are included, and what happens if weather or water conditions change.
Current kayaking and cruise options
Goa Kayaking offers guided mangrove and backwater paddles. For a government-listed option, Goa Tourism’s Konkan Explorers page lists a 1.5-hour Chapora River kayaking session, including training, with instructors and light refreshments. The page lists ₹2,050 per person and a minimum of four guests to open a slot; confirm the live rate and departure before travelling.
Konkan Explorers also describes longer cruise formulas and private bookings. Its Goa Tourism listing says reservations must be made in advance, that four guests are needed to open a slot, and that life jackets are mandatory for water activities. These are useful details to verify directly because operator schedules, prices and terms can change.

If you want a different kind of outing, these operators list other river and coastal experiences. Confirm the route, departure point, duration, current price and safety arrangements with each provider before booking.

Goa kayaking price guide
Prices vary by route, duration, group size and inclusions. As a live reference, Goa Tourism currently lists Konkan Explorers’ 1.5-hour guided Chapora River kayak at ₹2,050 per person, with a four-person minimum to open a slot. The same official listing shows a 90-minute Panaji cruise at ₹2,563 per person and a private booking at ₹20,000 for up to 10 guests. Treat these as listed rates rather than guaranteed quotes, and reconfirm directly before paying.
My own 2.5-hour private-yacht experience cost ₹3,500 per person when I went. That is a historical personal price and shouldn’t be used as a current estimate. Ask whether taxes, snacks, equipment, transfers and private use are included in the quoted amount.
Safety and booking tips
- Book ahead; the official Goa Tourism listing says Konkan Explorers does not accept walk-in bookings.
- Ask the operator about life jackets, guide support, weather cancellations, water conditions and the exact launch point. Goa Tourism says life jackets are mandatory for Konkan Explorers’ water activities, including for swimmers and non-swimmers.
- Wear clothes that can get wet, bring sun protection and a change of clothes, and keep your phone in a dry bag.
- Do not assume the monsoon automatically means kayaking is safe or available. Conditions and schedules vary; follow the operator’s decision and local advisories.
- Check whether a trip is shared or private, its minimum group size and the cancellation policy before paying.
